Jim Moritz has been a director at FreedomBank since 2019. His career in community banking began almost forty years ago as a part-time intern at Union State Bank in Monona, a role that laid the foundation for his future in the industry. After graduating from Upper Iowa University in May 1991, Jim started working full-time as a loan officer. Currently, he is the Market President of the Monona location. Additionally, he serves on the Board of Directors of FreedomBank Shares, Inc. and is a Trustee of FreedomBank's ESOP. Jim is also a Broker for Freedom Agency Real Estate.
After graduating from M-F-L High School, Jim obtained an associate’s degree in marketing from Kirkwood Community College, followed by a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Management with a Minor in Financial Institutions Management from Upper Iowa University. Jim's dedication to continuous learning is demonstrated by completing the University of Iowa School of Banking in 1996 and receiving a diploma from the University of Wisconsin Graduate School of Banking in 2013. Furthermore, he has been a licensed real estate agent in Iowa since 1994.
Jim shared his beliefs about community banks in Northeast Iowa. " Small community banks play an important role in the sustainability of small Northeast Iowa communities. Their primary role is to promote growth and quality of life in their communities by providing financial services to local businesses, farmers, and individuals. Without improved growth and quality of life, rural communities will struggle to maintain a population of all ages, especially young people."
Jim described the many lessons he learned in his role as a banker. At the top of the list is that trying to be everything to everyone and making decisions to please everyone is unrealistic. "Every situation is unique and requires a different approach to problem-solving. It is gratifying to assist customers in realizing their dreams," shared Jim.
He is the President and a member of the Board of Directors for Monona Enterprises, Inc., as well as for the MFL MarMac Dollars for Scholars Chapter. Additionally, he has held positions as President and Board member for the Monona Chamber of Commerce & Economic Development, Inc., and served as Treasurer for the City of Monona. Jim has also been a board member for the Clayton County Foundation for the Future, Chairman of the Finance Council and Parish Director for St. Patrick's Catholic Church, and Trustee for the St. Patrick's Cemetery Association. Furthermore, he was the past President of the Clayton County Bankers Association.
